Come to Kookies mountain

On a hiking  trip. we will capture magic in  a video clips

As long as your body, rigor has not yet begun.

when alive I guess is the best time to have your fun

Here  a rockwell setting  you may view

a scary old man, a Yeti if true

I witnessed this in my short review.

With camera and  fuzzy , helper begging for pets and wagging her tail If you give in, she will prevail

Visitors with hope of finding love

The heart broken  come in remembrance and prayer

to avoid being alone in their emotion al dispair

The family I imagined might appear on a hallmark card,

One more little one, bringing her up the trail, must kind of be hard.

A mountain biker  and  running girl speeding up the trail with out a stop pause only to view the sunset when they get to the top.

Balancing on a Slack line,

 yoga, stretching you may see

Or a photo session, many times in the old tree.

Birthdays, memorials,

and engagements too

here on top of the world, a beautiful setting for any venue

When the golden hour  is near you may see them every where

edge of the cliff

,  on blankets or  suspended in trees

or hammocks up in the air.

When the sun vanishes  out of sight

Wait for the rainbow sky  a colorful  delight

At twilight's end they will leave for their cars below.

Alone with my pup I will know,

Stuff cameras  in the backpack, It is past time to go.

Phone or flashlight needed at the end

come back with friends so we can do it  again.

The trail is bumpy and will be dark

If you  have a warrant  cruisers might be parked

If rain tomorrow, I will edit photo projects that I had begun

on golden skies, I must  capture the setting sun

with pups and friends while were young

My hopes and dreams will never be done.

To the end of my days I will follow the sun.

One day un noticed I will be gone

Unwilling and yet one day I must go

When I part, those who remember will know,

the adventures we shared on our mountain plateau

Until my photos are no longer shown

I will be with you, forever always

Never to be gone

This earth trip we don't know how long we will stay

Waiting   for  the mother ship takes us away

visit us then each year

just gaze past the sun on mid summers day

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

People have been walking up the trail to stand on Mount Pleasant and look over our city for generations.

They grow up here and their kids and grand kids come to repeat the ritual.
People move here from other cities and states and some locals will take them there.

With the mount to stand on for the view, this would just be an ordinary park like thousands of others.

Friends, families, people and their pups, couples, weddings, graduations, sports .. a happy place with endless stories.

I thought someone should write a book about Rising Park.
Beginning with the history tracing the events that created it and integrate personal stories.

I remember an old movie "Our Town" ... movies that have clips about the lives of people who live there.

Love stories... how many couples have met and fell in love, got engaged or married here?
I took lots of wedding photos at the park but this couple, just had three friends and were married at the gazebo.
No photographer so I asked them if I could take some photos for em. I had a card where people could download pics I took .. no cost.

This couple were having a casual wedding. The fill in flash produced great quality :)
I took so many photos, unless something stands out I don't remember them but lots of people approach me and tell me I took their pics... like these guys.

I saw a young guy taking a photo of his wife and baby. Looked to me like the baby was just a couple days old.. maybe just came from the hospital. He was using a phone camera and I asked them if I could do a couple for them, using their phone.
No pic, it was on their phone but somewhere a pic of all of them together exists.

Seeing a new mom n her baby I asked her for a pic. My favorite way to take photos in daylight. Get people in the shade and use fill in flash to bring out color and clear eyes :)
Guess the little girl is about 7 now.. 2018

I loved to take pics of people and their pups. Pups make great ambassadors as others want to stop and give them pets, they bring strangers together. Those who otherwise would just pass by unnoticed .

My favorite photographs were sunset photos on top of Mount Pleasant
Toward evening people swarm up the trail to watch the sunset with friends, family, their pups and their sidekicks
Using flash to keep faces from becoming silhouettes I got to freeze a moment in time.

Some loved the park so much their families place markers there, buy benches with their names, there are bricks with people's names.
Just before dark one night I saw a light balloon and event going on and I went over and asked if I could take some photos.
It turned out it was people I knew saying their last goodbye

I had been at the park a couple times when the emergency rescue teams were there to help someone who got stuck
Many people are taken there every year from falls.

When taking my Pup to the park one fall they had the streets blocked off.
Drew (an 11 year old girl) and her friend were playing on Mount Pleasant when she fell.

I put some of the details in a blog https://drewffuller.blogspot.com/

There are so many stories that could fill up a book about Rising Park.
Before facebook and digital cameras people came here and took photos.

I'll bet the families of those who donated the land and developed the park would have early photos and information to fill in the history of the park.

Being older, myself I have almost no contact with others. People who are still active that go to Olivedale would have accounts of their adventures here when they were young.
There must also be thousands of old prints in photo albums and drawers.
Because of their chemical base, they fade and become cracked.

While memories are active and there are prints to be scanned, so much history is there to be preserved and published.

Maybe the Rising Family would get involved.
For any visitors who also love the park I created a 'guest book' that they can email photos and fond memories of their visits HERE, they will become public domain.

If you think you might work on a book, I can help research information. If you only have phones to type .. ugh it is not likely...
Some people like to research genealogy but the findings only hold importance to some in their own families.
I think Rising Park is a place of shared affection to most everyone who has ever played there.. hung out with someone they loved ..

In the last few years I have been able to collect lots of photos of those who now climb up the trail, but in our community there are so many parents.. grandparents who have been here with memories and photos of their visits.

I would love to create an archives to preserve such treasures :)

Outdoor Photos

Of all the stuff taught in schools never used, it would seem there would be a photography course.. seeing endless photos of blurred faces, poor color saturation, blurred faces .. ugh
***

School Event pics under the Gazebo

Under a gazebo or any shelter that has a roof but open so light comes through

Overcast .. pics wont be too bad .. but

If it is bright out when people are under a roof, the light behind em can ruin your pics
Any time the light behind people is brighter than the light falling on their face they are back lit.

1  At Rising Park
I see Soooo many pics of couples taken here in bright sun and their features are obscured.
All dressed up an event that only takes place a few times in their lives.
All their friends n family rave how beautiful.. yeah because they are loved.

2  At Rising Park
Ah ha some one knew about the magic of fill in flash.
I don't know about new phone camera flash units but most are not powerful as a dedicated digital camera flash.
Fill in means it will flash every time regardless of how light or dark it is.
The closer to people the greater effect the flash will have so you might need to go for a waist up shot to move in close.
Afternoon the sun is toward the tennis court.
Glasses can cause a reflection but having people with glasses to shift their head around a bit changes the angle the flash hits and you will get some good shots with out a reflection

3  I don't know where these guys are, just a point about light
The kids in front are well lit, the roof is not putting their faces in the shade. In back the eyes can not be seen.. poor color saturation and detail

4  Don't know where this pic was taken but
Overcast and the kids came out from under the roof where the faces are well exposed.

On one sunny after noon I saw a big buunch of em getting pics and squinting in the hot sun.

In the afternoon there is a big shady area near Mt Pleasant, if you go there with your back to the fountain and use flash, you can get some great pics...
Also The big shelter at the top of the hill is often not used it is a great place to capture pics
I think they have most of their dressup events in spring and fall, but you could also reserve a shelter house for your events.

Check the weather map
If you want to stand on top of Mt P with the city behind you, the best time is before 10 so you are not back lit or use fill in light

PHOTOS ON TOP ANY TIME OF THE DAY
If the sun is not shinning through.. cloudy, you can get good pics on Mt P with Lancaster in the background

SUNNY DAY PICS ON MT P
If you want to stand on Mt P with Lancaster in the background
*  Before 10 AM you are good
*  Midday the sun will cause harsh shadows, turn your back to the sun and have the photographer get close and use fill in flash

*  IF it is a bit warm out, the climb will make you a bit red and likely perspire. Walk up about an hour before and have a handkerchief to blot.

*  After noon back of peoples head toward the fairground, photograph on top with them, move in and use flash

*  After noon people facing the fairground, photographer with a powerful telephoto down on the fairgrounds shooting people on top.

STANDING UNDER TREES
*  Standing under trees, overcast is ok but if the sun is filtering through the trees there will be cobweb shadows on those you are taking pics of. Move em to solid shade.
When you take pics of groups in spotty shade some faces will be hard to see.

Maybe the photography club could create a short course of outdoor photography n students could do a short trip.
(Day selected by checking the weather forecast)

======================================

Gazebo pics

How pics have I seen of people getting pics under the gazebo where their faces are hidden in the shadow.

The lights on your camera phones are not very powerful so you have to be close. Go after the waist to the top of the head.
The light will bring out their eyes and give the face good color saturation

Just try it on a sunny day, put some pals under the gazebo while they r n the shade, move in close and take one pic with and one pic with out fill n flash .. digital camera or phone
======================================
Sunsets

Almost any day of the year you can walk up n find couples, friends n families looking over our turf.
You can decrease the contrast a bit n make the sky orange but you must use flash
The effect that flash will have depends on distance. Move in and frame em from the waist up. Make sure the sun is peeking behind them.. they don't cover it. Move in and out a bit taking a couple shots. Pick the best n delete the rest :)

Here I compared flash n no flash with these guys. When the light is brighter behind someone their face becomes kind of a silhouette.

These two pics were taken seconds apart. Flash makes the difference between muddy shots or great color saturation and sparkling eyes.
Think waist to the top of the head shot. You can adjust the effect of the flash by moving closer or further away.. with a new digital camera you can use your flash compensation.

Dealing with glare, sunglasses take em off, regular glasses have your person keep looking at the camera but moving their head up, down, right, left slightly n one of the pics should have no glare.
======================================
NIGHT PICS

You can get super nice shots from Mt P.

At fair time or after dark with the city lights, you can get great people pics, but you have to use your phone light or camera flash to make the magic work ...

=====================================

They painted numbers on the post, this spot is at post 32.
Standing at this location is a rock a little higher then the rest.
Having your people just on the other side of the rail you will have a downward view ... great shot

If it is overcast, tilt the camera down to avoid the sky and use flash

Remove hats.. hoods n if it is a bit windy place any long hair persons so their hair is not flying in the faces of their pals.

Get em to remove any sun glasses, if they have regular glasses have em move their heads n slightly different directions while looking at the camera
.. and USE FLASH

Some like to walk out toward the edge but just let em duck under the rail so they are just on the other side. Some of em r like chipmunks sitting on the edge.. keep em close to the rail.

Standing on my favorite spot it was afternoon n I turned their faces from the sun. Because the light behind them was brighter than the light falling on their faces their faces would have been in a bit of a shadow.
Having them move close I turned the flash all the way up n produced great color saturation n made their eyes sparkle.

Your phones use LEDs (I guess) so it is a constant light. The closer any light flash/led is the greater the effect.
=================================
Light causes your eyes to close down a bit. If you are using a phone camera.. I guess it is not a flash.. so
But if you use a flash, it will do it's job before you have a chance to squint.

Glasses/reflective surfaces are a bit of a problem but you can get pretty good shots any way.

When people wear sun glasses ask em to put them on top of their head.
When you are at the park there will be other visitors near. Instead of trying to get a selfie with your pals, just ask someone to take.. 3 shots... one will be the best one :)
So close a cool place to get pets for my Pup n pics on my photo safari's. As soon as I get home I share my photos on facebook.
